Kyle Ritland

Kyle Ritland earned his MFA in Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside while working as a freelance environmental journalist, chasing stories of island foxes, desert birds, and big cats. His writing has been published in Blue Ridge Outdoors and The Revelator. He lives at the edge of the woods in the American Northeast with his wife Alannah and their two cats, Hazel and Fiver.

Trevor Ritland

Trevor Ritland spent two years in the cloud forests of Costa Rica before returning to the US to complete graduate work in documentary studies and science communication. His writing and photography exploring imperiled species and environmental mysteries have been published in Atlas Obscura, Mongabay, and Re:wild. Trevor lives with his wife and daughter (and their dog) in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Collaborative Projects

  • In June of 2025, Kyle and Trevor will publish The Golden Toad: An Ecological Mystery and the Search for a Lost Species with Diversion Books.

  • Kyle and Trevor are the cofounders of Adventure Term, Inc. — a nonprofit experiential education initiative training the next generation of environmental storytellers.

  • Their podcast, “Kyle and Trevor Rank Everything,” is exactly what it sounds like. The episodes are hosted on their Google Drive and are not publicly available.

 

Events

  • Trevor will participate in the Northern Arizona Book Festival’s “Southwest and Environmental Writers: A Reading & Discussion” event on April 12, 2025 at Firecreek Coffee in Flagstaff, Arizona.

  • Bright Side Bookshop in Flagstaff, Arizona will host a book launch and reading for The Golden Toad on June 17, 2025.
